New Zealand’s Strongest Man Competition 1991

A group of New Zealand's strongest athletes came together to contest the title of NZ's Strongest man held in Napier 1991. Many thanks have to go to TV 3 Mobil Sports from back in the day for the awesome footage of the event and to Colin Cox (RIP) who was instrumental in creating and organising the competition which is still going strong today. Too good to be forgotten, many of these athletes were national and even world champion powerlifters trying their hands at strongman events. Remembering the legends of our sport I’ve been a competitor in the New Zealand bodybuilding scene for the past 30 years but I’m also a big fan of the sport. I used to take my video camera to competitions throughout the early 90’s onwards. I have hours of footage I took of comps on my video camera or I recorded from TV, all on VHS tapes. The tapes are sitting in storage but slowly degrading, some I noticed sadly are already unwatchable. It’s a shame to have these memories wasting away so I’m going to make the effort to share them.
