Differential leukocyte count (DLC), also known as blood differential test, measures the different types of white blood cells (WBC) in the blood. WBCs are cells of the system that protect our body from infections, allergies, and diseases. There are six types of white blood cells: basophils eosinophils Neutrophils Band (Young Neutrophils) monocytes lymphocytes Each type of white blood cell has a specific function and any change in its levels can indicate a particular health condition. For example, increased levels of eosinophils are usually a sign of allergy. Doctors may recommend this test in conditions like anemia, infection, immune disorders, and leukemia. The following symptoms may be associated with abnormal levels of WBC in the body: weight loss Tiredness turning blue Fever body pain shudder Headache Usually this test is asked to be done along with a complete blood test. CBC test can also be done as a normal routine test or the doctor may recommend this test if there are symptoms of certain infections.
