‘From the river to the sea’ defended by USYD Senior Lecturer

USYD Senior Lecturer and National Tertiary Education Union President Doctor Nick Riemer has spoken on what he believes the ‘from the river to the sea’ chant represents at universities’ Gaza encampments. “I don’t feel that that is problematic at all – I chant it myself,” Mr Riemer told Sky News Australia. “From the River to the Sea needs to be understood as a call for equality and freedom for everyone between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean. “The Palestine Solidarity Movement is very explicit about that. “It wants Jewish people, Christian people, Muslim people, people of no religion to be able to live side-by-side in freedom and equality and wherever they’ve come from, however long they have been there.”
