"The Guider" is an 18'7" rowing-sailing boat, built at Chesapeake Light Craft in February 2019 for adventurer John Guider. The design brief for this open cruising dinghy included plenty of watertight storage, and room to sleep two adults beneath a boom tent. With an itinerary that includes open water passages, performance in rough and windy conditions was paramount---in concert with the need to row well when the wind drops. While the Guider will be fast and handy under sail and oar, there's an emphasis on safety and camp-cruising comfort. There's plenty of room for two adults to sleep in the 6'6" long cockpit. More information: https://www.clcboats.com/shop/boats/d... The interior includes lots of built-in storage and flotation (there are 12 watertight compartments in all), and a small footwell. If not fully laden with camping gear, the Guider has provision for several hundred pounds of internal ballast, either lead or water. Construction is of fiberglass and epoxy over okoume marine plywood. The goal is to add this design to CLC's collection of kits and plans, though a release date has not been set.
