Last concert of Troy gentry : RIP Troy Gentry The Grand Ole Opry honored Montgomery Gentry‘s Troy Gentry by sharing a video of the duo’s final performance together on the famous stage. The celebrated country act appeared on the Opry together on July 1, 2017. It was the last time Gentry would perform there  before his untimely death in a helicopter crash on Sept. 8. The duo received a warm welcome to the stage from an elated audience — they were met by a spirited round of applause before the duo dove into a performance of one of their biggest hits, “Where I Come From.” With Gentry on guitar and sharing vocals with Eddie Montgomery, the country act put on a great show, clearly enjoying every moment. The crowd didn’t hesitate when Montgomery turned the mic over to them to sing the chorus, with Gentry leading the choir all the while. Though the duo had no idea it would be their last performance together on the sacred stage, the song is a fitting one, celebrating one’s humble roots and honoring the place and people that raised them. Gentry was tragically killed when the helicopter he was riding in before a show in Medford, N.J. crashed due to mechanical issues. His official obituary, released on Monday (Sept. 11), shares that Gentry and Montgomery’s induction into the Opry was his “proudest professional achievement.” “Known for his wide smile, Gentry was personally driven by faith, family and living life to the fullest,” the obit describes. Country stars are paying tribute to Gentry left and right — Jason Aldean, Jake Owen, Blake Shelton, Lee Brice and many more have honored him onstage in the days following the loss to the genre.
