Discussion Panel: Creative Education Danah Abdullah It is almost unheard of to think that there is such a thing as design and art education in the Arab region. While none of them are on the map due to poor research outputs, lack of graduate education, and no famous alumni - these institutions do exist. This panel discussion will delve into design and art education in the Arab region - both in the institution and through public education. Is design and art education a space of possibility or trapped in time? This is the main question leading the discussion. With design rapidly changing and shifting its concerns, and an art market that has grown tremendously, are institutions keeping up with the advances? What type of students are they producing? How are they engaging with the public? What are the issues facing the design school and the art school? What are public perceptions of art and design and how can we shift these? How can we - as researchers, professors and practitioners - better support students to address the new concerns? The aim of this panel is to have a discussion regarding the role and future of the design and art school.
