Creative practices and practitioners are central to restoring and producing healthy social and ecological systems that allow cities to flourish. Yet spaces are being lost, and artists are being marginalised within many of the existing systems. A robust and resilient cultural infrastructure is needed that includes not only equitable spaces to make, share, and live, but also just institutions, supportive policies, broad economic frameworks, networks of care, shared knowledges and access to participation. This panel asks how to enable artists to live, work and take risks in Australia’s major cities, and considers the role of cultural practice in transforming sociopolitical, economic, and environmental systems. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Festival of Regenerative Urbanism 2025 Regenerative urbanism is about transforming spaces for people and the planet, through holistic action for systemic change. In an era of poly-crises – defined by climate threat, social inequality, and biodiversity loss – we must rethink systems for food, energy, water, waste, transport, land and housing. Beyond sustainability or minimising harm, and far from heavy-handed models of ‘urban regeneration’, a regenerative paradigm seeks to heal, restore, renew and revitalise ecosystems, actively improving environmental and social well-being. From leading First Nations experts in landscape design and architecture, to urban agriculture, restorative infrastructure, circular industries, and the creative economy, speakers and events at this year’s Festival of Regenerative Urbanism offer new and exciting possibilities for change. The Festival of Regenerative Urbanism will debate these topics and more. Join us to engage with academics, activists, politicians, industry leaders through our program of panel discussions, walking tours, and podcasts across Sydney and Australia.
