AAPI Training 2023 Part 2

As we close out AAPI Heritage Month, we are proud to honor our commitment to the AAPI community. Last week, all NEWS staff and volunteers received cultural competency training to ensure we are responsive to the needs of the community. We were blown away by the guidance from Shirley and Sarah of the Asian Pacific Institute on Gender Based Violence. Among many other things, we explored the diversity of ethnicities, cultures, religions, socio-economic statuses, and other identities that Asians/Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in the U.S. represent. As a result, the experiences and needs of AAPI survivors of gender-based violence are just as varied, and often underrepresented. Here at NEWS, we stand firm in solidarity with the AAPI community and are here to support DV/SA survivors in a way that works best for them. Thank you APIGBV for sharing your valuable insights!
