There are 3 different ways to install NVMe SSDs into your Dell R630 servers. PCIe, M.2 and U.2. PCIe & M.2 NVMe solutions will work for both the 8 Bay and 10 Bay. However, the U.2 solution will only work with the 10 Bay chassis and requires a whole NVMe upgrade kit. We will show each option, what is required and how to install those options. The kit to utilize 2.5" U.2 drives is the hardest to install, but is still a very easy upgrade overall. One point to note: make sure you install the card in the closest PCIe slot. Otherwise, the cable will NOT be long enough. The cable for this kit can be a bit tricky to install. We will show how we like to get past this obstacle. With the M.2 solutions, you will need a Boss Card. We actually used a Supermicro card for this, which is worth noting. Dell 14th Generation Boss Cards will not work with the R630. With the PCIe solutions, you just need to make sure you have the correct bracket size. NVMe is lightning fast and will be a major boost in speed and performance.
