With my wife Dace we went back to the other side of the map to share it with you and we are in the Faroe Islands, an unknown place in northern Europe. Faroese society is traditionally male. One of the main difficulties they face is the lack of employment opportunities. Although many women have reached important positions in government and education, most industries in the Faroes are dominated by men. On the other hand, the Faroe Islands are known to have a high prevalence of some genetic diseases due to their small isolated population and their history of inbreeding. Huntington's disease is an inherited neurodegenerative disorder that affects movement, cognition, and behavior. The prevalence rate of this disease in the Faroe Islands has the highest rate in the world. For this and other reasons, Faroese women seek relationships with foreigners, based on emotional connection, respect, and compatibility, and expect couples to strengthen each other in all areas of life. Because the Faroes are a small community, many people have known each other for a long time and relationships are often formed through friends or family. As for traditions, in the Faroe Islands the custom is maintained for the man to propose to the woman, often publicly and with a ring. Behind the mist, mist and drizzle, there are romantic hearts in the Faroe Islands. The Faroese are a highly independent and nationalistic people. The Faroese consider themselves a separate nation, different from the Danes, and only politically united to the Danes through the commonwealth formed under the same monarchy. For a Faroese, her relationship with someone from Copenhagen is similar to that of a Spaniard and a German. Even within the islands, the Danes are technically considered foreigners for all intents and purposes. Avoid saying that "this is Denmark" while you are on the Faroe Islands and even less say to a Faroese woman that she is Danish. Danes also have a strong stereotype of Faroese women as small-town, uncivilized, and extremely conservative. It may be true, but they are very proud of their customs and traditions, so avoid criticizing them. If you ever dare to come to the Faroe Islands, keep in mind that respect for their customs is paramount.
