What was Amílcar Cabral's position on revolutionary violence? Anthropologist António Tomás joins AIAC Talk show co-hosts Sean Jacobs and William Shoki to discuss the legacy of Amílcar Cabral, part of a generation of anti-colonial leaders who were “gone too soon". An astute theoretician, fierce fighter and gracious politician (with a professional background as an agronomist to boot) Cabral was, in short, the complete revolutionary. António is an anthropologist, trained at Columbia University and currently teaching in the Graduate School of Architecture at the University of Johannesburg. He authored a biography of the life and thought of Amílcar Cabral, entitled Amílcar Cabral: O Fazedor de Utopias, published in Portugal (Lisboa: Tinta-da-China, 2008) and in Cape Verde (Praia, Spleen 2009). Using newly available archival resources, he is now working on an updated English version: Amílcar Cabral, the Life of a Reluctant Nationalist (Hurst Publishers, forthcoming, 2021).
