Food waste is a global problem. Each year 1.3 billion tonnes of food are lost or wasted globally (FAO 2011). Various films, books, and research studies have shown us the scale of the problem. Here is one thing we can do. Everyday, restaurants prepare delicious food with love, labor, and resources. But if these meals don't sell before closing time, their destiny is too often to be wasted. It does not have to end this way! There is a way to save this food from going to waste! The MealSaver App connects restaurants that have surplus food with people who are looking for food. Find a restaurant, café or bakery you like, buy the discounted meals online, pick up your fine food in bio-degradable boxes and enjoy. The MealSaver result: happy restaurant owners, happy eaters, and a greener environment. Each portion saves approximately 1.8 kg of CO2e (iSuN 2012). We are a social start-up based in Berlin. The vision of MealSaver is a waste-less food system. We want to reach this by creating easy, environmentally and economically viable alternatives to wasting food.
