Affimma showcases a story of a young maiden by name Affiong, who comes from a humble background and the only child in a family of farmers. She is raised in a close-knit Ukana Community where she witnessed the beauty of simplicity and hard work. Affiong from birth is betrothed to Edemudo, the son of her father’s friend, as a way of sealing a long time relationship. Despite her modest upbringing, Affimma as she was fondly called possesses a deep fascination with royalty and dreams of becoming a queen someday. This aspiration streams from her desire for influence, and a better life. She grew up to be a lady of quintessential beauty that some beholders said her beauty far excelled the beauty of the mermaid Affiawanndem, the elusive river goddess who acquired her real concrete form in the myth and cosmos of human inhabitants. She was loved by all and even the royal household. Affiawanndem, the beauty deity, is a goddess associated with divinity, femininity, fertility, beauty and love, who made a pact with Edemudo’s mother for her son’s life. Affiawanndem having observed Edemudo’s growth as his guardian of life bestows the gift of abundant fishing upon him, by making him to be the best fisherman in the kingdom, progressively develops an attachment to him. She resorts to drastic measures by infecting Affimma with a mysterious skin disease to separate her from Edemudo due to Affimma’s perceived interference in her presumed affection to Edemudo. Prince Utibe, who had been the secret admirer of Affimma also finds himself at the center of a political marriage between his kingdom to Princess Daramfon of a neighboring kingdom. His conflicting emotions intensify as he grapples with his loyalty to his duty and his overwhelming affection for Affimma.
