To Die Is Gain

Continuing our series of messages on misunderstood texts of the Bible, we come the often used quote, “For me to live is Christ and, to die is gain.” We use this to describe our belief and commitment to live our lives for the Lord and when we die we go to heaven and experience a gain for us. And this is definitely true that the believer in Christ will go to heaven when he or she dies and that heaven is so much better than living in this sin cursed world, as Paul has said the sufferings of this present life are not worthy to be compared to the glory that shall be revealed in us. But, is this what Paul is talking about in this verse? Once again, we take this verse our of it’s context and use it as we please, when we want to state our dedication to living a godly life as long as we live and then go to heaven when we die.
