How narcissists turn others against you through the smear campaign is with the use of flying monkeys. Narcissists dont care how you feel and they only care about what makes them feel good. The narcissist’s low self esteem and fragile ego means you dont matter to the narcissist. You will always be wrong to the narcissist and if you do anything which makes them feel like you have wronged them, this is why they do the smear campaign. So, what is the goal of the smear campaign? To control and manipulate not only you, but others as well. The smear campaign isn’t done by the narcissist alone. Rather, they enlist the help of others who they think can spread the message they think others need to hear about you. If you feel like “nothing I do is good enough for my partner”, you are correct, nothing you do is good enough for the narcissists. How narcissists try to control you is with the silent treatment, narcissistic rage, and the smear campaign. If you try to defend yourself, they will simply recruit more flying monkeys so you appear to be the crazy one and not them. They need to have people on their side. So, how to handle a smear campaign against you? Don’t take the bait. Don’t defend yourself and don’t try to convince the flying monkeys that what is being said about you is false. They don’t care.
