A tribute to Umm Kulthum with Riad Al-Sunbati's Al Atlal

On February 3, 2025, exactly 50 years after the passing of Umm Kulthum, we presented a tribute to the legendary singer in collaboration with Het Concertgebouw. Singers Nai Barghouti and Ghalia Benali, presenter Abdelkader Benali & Rahma el-Mouden, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, and various Arab musicians performed a theatrical homage. The song Al-Atlal, or The Ruins, is a masterpiece of Arab music and widely regarded as a classic. Many critics have hailed it as The Crown of the Arab Song and the greatest Arab song of the twentieth century. It is often considered the finest work ever performed by Umm Kulthum and the most exceptional composition by Riad Al-Sunbati.
