Tan Weiwei shines at Tourism Festival opening

At the opening ceremony of the 16th China Yangtze River Three Gorges International Tourism Festival, renowned Chinese singer and actress Tan Weiwei performed two pieces: “Song of Chi-Le” and “Chuanjiang Haozi.” “Song of Chi-Le,” or “Song of the Prairie,” is adapted from a folk song dating back to the Northern and Southern dynasties (420-589). Tan’s rendition blended classical poetry with modern musical styles, vividly evoking the vast grasslands and the free-spirited lives of herders galloping across the steppes. In contrast, “Chuanjiang Haozi” is one of China’s most distinctive traditional work songs, once sung by boatmen as they navigated the turbulent waters of the Chuan Jiang River.
