President Donald Trump has called off a "surge" of federal agents and troops in San Francisco planned for this weekend after speaking with local officials. The surprise announcement stems from a late-night phone call between San Francisco's mayor and President Donald Trump. The Trump administration confirmed the phone call and the troop postponement. "The president’s conversation with the San Francisco mayor last night and his statement proves the president is willing to work with anyone across the aisle, across the country to do the right thing, to clean up America’s cities," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said. "He is genuinely interested in this effort to make our streets safer, to make our cities safe and clean again, and he heard from the mayor last night that he’s going to try to make his city better on his own. He said, ‘OK, we’ll give you a chance, we’ll be watching, and if you need us, we’re here.
