National election is free and fair, CNP says KhmerTimes: 30/July/2018 The Cambodian Nationality Party said today that the Sunday’s election was conducted freely and fairly without any violence and intimidation. In the statement, Seng Sokheng, president of the Cambodian National Party, said that his party noticed the national election on Sunday went smoothly without any disruption and violence. “There is no intimidation and it is free, fair, transparent, and acceptable. It is much better than the previous election,” the statement said. Yang Saing Koma, president of Grassroots Democratic Party, posted message on his Facebook saying that although the GDP won no seat, it gained supports from local villagers, especially building grassroots democracy. “We will continue to work with more Khmer youths and local people to grow basic democratic seeds. We continue to try our best for the sake of political freedom,” Mr Saing Koma said. The National Election Committee yesterday said that the national election was a resounding success, with 82.17 percent of registered voters turning out to cast ballots to elect the 125-seat National Assembly. As of press time yesterday evening, unofficial results showed that the CPP won more than 110 seats in the National Assembly, while Funcinpec and the LDP were the only other two parties to secure those remaining. People support a multiparty democracy, Hun Sen says KhmerTimes: 31/July/2018 Prime Minister Hun Sen said today that Cambodia conducted a free and fair election on Sunday with higher voter turnout. Mr Hun Sen wrote message on his Facebook, saying with 82.89 percent of voter turnout and 20 political parties contesting the election, it clearly showed that the majority of Cambodian people supported a multiparty democracy. “People showed great will in exercising their rights to vote for any political party they liked freely without pressure or coercion,” he said. “Cambodia is an independent and sovereign country and will continue to hold the election every five year so that all people have a chance to vote and determine the country’s fate freely,” he said. The National Election Committee yesterday updated its preliminary results, upping the voter turnout rate to 82.89 percent with the CPP securing 76.78 percent of votes nationwide. More than 6.9 million people cast ballots on Sunday, representing 82.89 percent of the 8.3 million registered to vote.
