Pakistan is not the kind of place that most people would associate with gay & lesbian liberation. Pakistanis view homosexuality as sinful. But there is a class that is involved in the LGBTQ movement. Underground parties, group sex, and "marriages of convenience" to members of the opposite sex are just some of the surprises. Interviewee: Nayyab Ali Nayyab Ali is a transgender rights defender and Chairperson of the All Pakistan Transgender Election Network. She also manages the ‘Khawaja Sira Community Centre’ in Okara, which offers a basic literacy and numeracy programme, vocational training, life skills education and driving classes for the transgender community. In 2018, Nayyab was one of four transgender candidates who ran for Pakistan's general elections. Nayyab has also been leading the advocacy efforts for the approval of Pakistan’s National Transgender Rights Protection Policy. She is a winner of the Galas Award in 2020, for her human rights work. Mr. Shoaib Madni Is a renowned social worker, public speaker, independent researcher and analyst, and parents’ trainer on children's education and upbringing. He is the author of several school textbooks later published by Spectrum Publishers. Founder of Salam Foundation, and "iRoots" Schooling System. He is also the founder and director of "Shaoor" Institute and Media Network which has raised the matter of the controversial Transgender Act 2018 on the national level and is a Party in the court case in FSC. He is a Trustee at the SHED Foundation, an organization that runs various projects. One of the projects of the SHED Foundation is SHED Hospital where medical assistance and cure are provided to the famously-said KhawajaSara (Khunsa, Intersex) people who are suffering from sexual ambiguity. The SHED Foundation also helps Khunsa people who come back from the known KhawajaSira culture.
