Choosing the right size boat for your needs. I take my 19 foot boat out on the chesapeake bay on a calm day to show you what it's like. Taking a small boat offshore or into rough waters is a potentially dangerous situation. If you're boating on larger bodies of water like the great lakes, bays or larger rivers with heavy traffic, having the right size boat makes the trip safer and more enjoyable. Going offshore in an 18 foot, 19 foot, or 17 foot boat can be done, but you're much more susceptible to the waves and wakes from larger vessels.
