It’s 5.5 metres long – longer than the Ranger or HiLux – with a huge tray, massive cabin and a feature list that’s anything but entry-level. At launch, the Origin grade lands at $54K drive-away, or just under $51K for ABN holders, and is already in showrooms – albeit in small numbers. And there’s also a special launch deal which positions the ute under $50K drive-away. Inside, there’s plenty to talk about, from twin 12.3-inch screens and a futuristic two-spoke steering wheel to standard wireless Apple CarPlay and even massage seats in the top-spec Evolve model. Off-road gear includes low-range 4WD, locking diffs and dedicated crawl modes. It’s even got a 3500kg towing capacity, a 1100kg payload, and the most powerful 4-cylinder diesel in the class (163kW/520Nm) – except for the Toyota HiLux GR Sport. With bold looks, big numbers and a few quirks, the Terron 9 is anything but subtle. But in a world of shrinking trays and rising prices, maybe that’s what makes it stand out.
