Never a company to follow the crowd, Mazda has attempted something truly different with its MX-30 R-EV. For where the batteries in other electric cars keep getting bigger, Mazda has decided to go in the opposite direction and fit the MX-30 with a 17.8kWh battery for a range of around 50 miles between charges. It then bolsters this with a tiny single cylinder rotary petrol engine that acts as a range extender, giving enough extra juice to the battery that you can go over 370 miles on a full charge and a tank of fuel. That's not where the MX-30's quirkiness ends, for it also has strange doors, unusual styling, a refreshingly small infotainment screen, and even some cork trim in the interior. Intrigued?
