But looking at its lifetime, Mahindra has updated the Scorpio very frequently and it brought the features which were never heard off in its segment before like the micro hybrid technology, voice commands among others.We drove this most popular SUV in the Indian market space. Lets roll. Exteriors : Mahindra has retrained the previous Scorpio’s design cues but presented them in a modern avatar, it’s now more edgier and flamboyant than ever. It gets new angular headlamps, honeycombed grille, projector headlamps, LED eyebrow lamps and LED tail lamps, new 17-inch alloys to name a few! Interiors : Unlike the exterior resemblance with the previous generation SUV, interiors of the Mahindra Scorpio are completely new. The biggest change on the inside is a new 6-inch touch screen infotainment system that even has a built-in satellite navigation. Another big add-on is the fully automatic air conditioning system which was not present before. Moreover, other features like the voice commands, cruise control among others are carried forward from the first-gen SUV. Ride and Handling : Ride and handling of the new Scorpio has improved manifold compared to the previous generation which was plagued with excessive body roll and poor dynamics. Adding on this context, this is all - courtesy to the new hydroformed modular platform (chassis), rear & front axles, suspension setup and improved aerodynamics. Moreover, new Mahindra Scorpio also rides on fatter 17-inch radials which have also improved the overall ride quality compared to the previous generation SUV. Engines : The potent 2.2-liter engine has been retained in the new Scorpio which gets slight tuning to improve the responsiveness and overall fuel efficiency. The the 2179 cc variable geometry turbocharged diesel chucks out 120 PS of max power and 280 Nm of peak torque. Now, the major change mechanically is the addition of a new 5-speed manual transmission - Mahindra’s 5MT320 5-speed manual. Thanks to it, shifts are now very smooth and precise. Verdict : 2015 Mahindra Scorpio has really evolved manifold from the first generation SUV and is still a competitive buy in it segment. With the addition of new features including several segment first ones, the new Scorpio carry forwarded the legacy of its predecessor. Moreover, its 4WD (Four-Wheel-Drive) S10 variant is indeed the most value for money 4WD SUV selling in the country at present. Though there are still minute glitches in the new Scorpio but guess you can live with that and considering the larger picture, it will certain take off from where the previous generation Scorpio left!
