Speed training, overspeed training, and overweight training usually get lumped together. Many think that the only way to speed train is by using a multi-weight training system that is not your driver. This could not be further from the truth. Speed training is an umbrella term that includes overspeed training but not overweight training. Speed training can and is typically done by swinging a driver as fast as you can for an entire swing session. The focus should not be on ball flight, ball striking, or anything outside of club speed. Overspeed training is swinging a training aid faster than you swing your driver. This allows your body and nervous system to get used to faster speeds, break through barriers, and trains your fast twitch muscles to be active in the golf swing. Overweight training is actually the opposite of speed training. It trains your big muscles to swing hard, not fast. This should NEVER be included under the umbrella of speed training. If you are looking to lower your scores in golf or hit the ball further, speed training is the place to start. It comes in many different shapes and forms so do not always assume speed training means it has to be done with multi-weight training aids. It can be done with only a driver.
