You are never too young or too old to enjoy Bob Marley or to learn to play music, especially if it is on pan! This is a very basic introductory lesson on tenor pan to get you started right away. Geared toward the absolute beginner - if you have ZERO musical knowledge or experience, but you have a tenor pan - this will get you up and playing guaranteed within 10 minutes!! The steelpan is the National Musical Instrument of Trinidad & Tobago, with a magically beautiful sound and an incredible history, probably the most difficult and intricate instrument in the world to tune, and yet one of the most accessible and enjoyable instruments to learn music on. (also called ʻsteel drums' by people who donʻt know better). Bob Marley needs no introduction! A real-life prophet to the entire Caribbean, the reggae music and culture of Rastafari for which he served as an ambassador is basically the Jamaican parallel to the Steelband movement in Trinidad & Tobago and the other end of the island chain. Born out of immense struggle and against all odds, a completely downpressed and disregarded people take something no one else wanted, in one case physical discarded oil drums, in the other, the harsh experience of slum life, and created something raw but pure, incredibly powerful and meaningful to their peers, and yet universally beautiful and inspiring.
