Hmar Fahrel Tawk Lam (Manipur Tribal Dance)

Official Hmar Dance and Song This is a personal project my wife and I worked on during our stay in Manipur, Rengkai. I married a tribal and during our stay, the chief of Churanchadpur invited me and my wife over for dinner. When we went, they had the performance prepared for us known as Hmar Fahrel Tawk Lam. After that, my good friend and brother, Joe shared the backstory of how the dance came about. Then I was obsessed with the idea of filming all this as my personal project. Thanks to Mercy Malsawmkim (My wife), Jeffrey D Tusing (my Zawlpa) for helping me put together talented people. One of the dancers is Hming, Mercy's little sister. It took us few days to film and then a few years to put together as I was got busy with USA works. I think it took me 3 years to finally gather these together. One of the reasons it took too long was because I hacked the 5Dm3 Canon with Black Lantern to shoot RAW and I realized that I had to stitch all the sequences together which would take days alone rendering it. But here it is, finally here for you all to enjoy. I'm proud to be part of this culture. The people are beautiful, the culture is rich and full of emotional history. I'm proud to have married not only my wife but into the culture itself. -Andrey Solo
