Oranges and Lemons, the well known Nursery Rhyme, refers to the bells of St. Clement's, Eastcheap, London, where today's composer, Jonathan Battishill, 1738-1801, was organist. He became a chorister at St. Paul's Cathedral in 1747 and was, at his request, buried there, next to William Boyce. At his Funeral his very fine 7 part Anthem, Call to remembrance was sung. His output of Anglican Chant was considerable though his Hymn Tunes such as St. Pancras and Battishill are less familiar. This piece, Andante, is from an album of 12 pieces by Old English composers, arranged by John Ebenezer West, and published in 1906, At present I have not sourced the original score. Appropriately, I'm playing it on St. Mary le Bow Hauptwerk sample set.
