Date recorded - 5th December 2022 Hosted by ACAN Natural Materials Group. AN INTRODUCTION TO RETROFIT WITH NATURAL MATERIALS Join ACAN to learn from experts about the importance of retrofit and the benefits of doing so with natural materials. We will look in detail at which Natural Material products can be used and where. Find out more about the key ways you can retrofit floors, walls and roofs using natural materials, including plenty of case studies and examples. Retrofitting with Natural Materials can deliver energy saving measures that provide healthy, comfortable buildings for the occupants without causing damage to the building fabric. Simultaneously reducing energy demand (and therefore energy bills) whilst using materials that can be ecologically regenerative. Our expert speakers include: 🌿 Ilias Igoumenidis, Technical Support Engineer, Ecological Building Systems UK Ltd 🌿 Born and raised in Greece, Ilias graduated from the Polytechnic school of Civil Engineers of Patras University in 1997 and for many years ran his own Design and Construction company prior to joining Ecological. He was the first person in the Hellenic Passive House Institute to gain the International Certification of a Certified Passive House Designer. He is also a Certified Retrofit Coordinator. Recent projects that Ilias has been involved with include: Agar Grove, - 500 affordable homes for new and existing tenants, Cameron House Resort - Retrofit, and Glasgow Southside Association Strathbungo Tenement Restorations - Internal wall insulation systems. Richard has had several articles and guidance notes published, including his book ‘Survey and Repair of Traditional Buildings – A sustainable approach’ published in 2003 by Donhead. Architects Climate Action Network is a network of individuals from within architecture and it’s related built environment professions taking action to address the twin crises of climate and ecological breakdown. We recognise the compelling scientific consensus that our present trajectory will lead to catastrophe if we do not make ambitious and radical changes as a matter of urgency. We are already seeing the consequences. We also acknowledge that the built environment is a major contributing factor to the climate crisis and as such requires complete and rapid transformation (which we are yet to witness). We can no longer remain secluded within personal and professional silos and instead must harness our agency as citizens with shared professional backgrounds to bring about the necessary changes to our industry. As a network of individuals, ACAN is able to act at speed, without conflict of interest, and is open to methods that may be unavailable to other campaign organisations. #ACAN #ClimateChange #Architecture
