Storm Ingrid hits Plymouth Sound (23/01/2026)

Today was a trip meant to be for ship spotting movements however the weather was pretty bad as storm Ingrid made it its way towards the west country. So this is a quick video, it’s not the best of quality unfortunately due to the high winds and making a very difficult to operate my iPhone as well as trying to not fall over due to the high winds. Out past the breakwater I noticed some waves and didn’t think much about filming it because of the distance but when the café staff member said are you recording the waves out there? They’re really big, so I had a go at trying to film what looked to be anything between 30 to 100 foot waves that was incredible to see considering the distance they were from my position at Tinside Lido. Whilst I was filming there was a small Ridge raider boat with what looked like three or four people on board risking their lives to get across Plymouth sound and they almost didn’t make it as seen in the video .
