Welcome to our channel Power of knowledge. In this video you will learn about a special medical treatment option for arthritic joint called joint fusion surgery with the help of 3d animations. so here is the script which you will learn. "Joint fusion surgery, also known as arthrodesis, is a surgical procedure where two bones of a joint are connected to each other. This procedure is often performed on joints severely damaged due to arthritis. Arthritis refers to a condition where the cartilage around our joints is damaged. Cartilage helps in the smooth movement of our bones, and when it gets damaged, the bones start rubbing against each other during movement, causing intense pain. With time, arthritic joints become stiff. Usually, medicines are given to reduce joint pain, but they don't treat the joint itself. That's why joints that are severely affected are fused through arthrodesis. Now, let's see how joint fusion surgery is performed. During the surgery, the patient is given general or local anesthesia. The surgeon then makes a cut to expose the joint that needs to be fused. The cartilage around the joint is removed, and the joint bones are connected using metal pins or rods. These metal pins remain in place even after the bones have fused. In some cases, a bone graft may also be used. However, if a graft is not used, new bone material naturally forms in the joint area, allowing the two bones to connect properly over time. While joint fusion eliminates pain, it also limits the movement of the joint. Therefore, there are some compromises to be made in this surgery. In terms of risks, there's a possibility that bone fusion may not align perfectly, there could be an infection, or the union might not happen as expected. That's all for today; we'll see you in our next video. Until then, thank you for watching.
