A skin mass is an irregular overgrowth of tissue on or within the skin layer, and today I am going to walk you through the removal of it on a dog. The mass appeared to be a moderately sized, raised, red mass on his hind leg. Upon further evaluation, the mass was found to extend deeper into the underlying tissues. In order to remove the mass, I needed to cut wide margins around the mass while also dissecting deep into the underlying tissues until I was able to reach the base of the mass. Mass removals are one of the most common types of surgeries that I do in general practice and my favorite type of surgery. Mass removals are particularly gratifying as the results are immediately visible. I hope you enjoy! If you would like to check out another mass removal, please check out the surgery that I did on my dog, Hades: • Dog Tumor Removal | First person point of ... 00:00 Overview of the surgery 00:28 Initial incision 01:44 Adjusting the drape 02:20 Extending the incision through the skin 03:11 First bleeder 03:38 Extending the incision deeper 06:31 Second bleeder 08:03 Dissection with scissors 09:09 Transecting a blood vessel 10:54 Undermining the mass 11:24 Suturing the blood vessels 13:42 Continuing to undermine the mass 15:15 Blood vessel clamping and suturing 16:59 Dissecting under the mass 20:27 Regloving 21:41 Mass removal 22:38 Suturing 34:55 Conclusion
