Old New York City Subway Trains: See The 1980s BMT Train Lines In Brooklyn & Queens

Take a ride on these old New York City subway trains. This is a look at the old New York City subways during the graffiti days of the 1980's in the MTA transit system. Not only are the old New York City subways interesting to see but also the 1980's subway stations and buildings and scenic surroundings of the old New York City. You don't have to be a railfan to appreciate these vintage NYC subway photos of the BMT letter lines. The photos in this group are from all 1980's years. The car types are many from R-16 to R-46 cars on many lines and in many different conditions on the outsides, some clean and some not that clean. There are many more different car types that were used on the letter lines, from A to RR. By this time in the 1980's, most if not all cars had some graffiti on them on the outsides and insides. Even the JFK Express train that was introduced in 1978, later had some painted cars at some point but those cars got cleaned up much faster than any other cars. If you like R27's, R40's and R42 cars, this video has some good memories of those cars and before they were rebuilt years later. The only car types still used now in 2020, are some R32 cars and many R46 cars and that fleet of cars has many more cars on more lines. The R32 cars are not many and used mostly on the J train now. Those R32 cars have been rebuilt and are now the oldest cars being used in passenger service by NY Transit. These photos show a different time in NYC and when things were more interesting on what was happening in the system, compared to now where we have many new technology trains purchased and in use. They don't have old style front or side destination cloth or mylar rollsigns like these older cars had. If you like more nostalgia to how it was, the 1980's on the letter lines were a good variety to enjoy. Some cars had better heat in the winter and others had better air conditioning in the summer, say you are taking a trip to Coney Island or Brighton Beach on the D train, you know how that goes. This group shows cars on the Brighton line for the D train, Jamaica trains on the J, the trains to the Rockaways in Queens, plus a JFK Express train. There are many different types of outdoor stations to take photos from like the famous long gone now, parking garage near Queensboro Plaza station in Queens where a RR train is coming around the turn into the station going Manhattan bound. The only odd photo here is a full train of IRT cars in Redbird paint but in a IND yard at 207st in Manhattan. That yard always has a supply of some IRT cars hanging out. The train has a #6 rollsign in front but surrounded by many other types of letter line cars. If you like high quality photos of the New York City Subways from the 1970's, get a copy of the book "Making All Stops" - Volume One at Home This photo book series has more than just BMT lines, it has all IRT train lines and the IRT line that does not get too much publicity, the #7 train. It's a good variety of equipment and locations any train historian would enjoy and very recommended for any train book library. There are photos not posted here that are in that book series and only Volume One book is available, that covers from the years of 1970 to 1976 and has other 1980's photos too when used in comparison photos.
