Thirteen workers have occupied the factory and are continuing their struggle against Nitto, a Japanese 'dine and dash capital' that is trying to liquidate the Korea Optical HighTech factory after a fire accident in October last year. After earning 6 trillion won (4.5billion dollars) in profits for decades from Korea Optical HighTech factory in Gumi region, which produces LCD films, by receiving free land leases and tax incentives from the Gumi city, Nitto is now trying to liquidate the factory without taking any responsibility for the workers' employment. When the company conducted layoffs in 2019,Ji-yeong Lee, member of union, wrote her voluntary resignation because she believed that the company was in trouble. Even when the company called her back, she decided to "bury her bones in this company" and rejoined the company with her husband. After trusting the company and planning for childbirth and parental leave, the company notified her of its liquidation suddenly via text message. To Korea Optical HighTech, Ji-young Lee was like a part that could be called upon when needed and discarded when no longer needed. Cases like this reveal how capital, acting solely on the logic of profit, destroys workers and communities. "I want to make sure that there are no more innocent people like us through this struggle," says union member Ji-young Lee. --------- This is Studio R, the media of struggle for people changing the world.
