The real dry season in Cambodia (March–April) is coming. To survive it, we have to change our strategy today. In this video, we show how we use a combination of 6200Wp solar power and traditional "Paddy Field" grazing to give our farm a massive advantage. We start with a quiet morning view of the farm. You’ll notice our main grazing fields are empty—we have closed them off to allow the grass to recover and grow thick. To speed up that growth, we are firing up our 5.5kW centrifugal pump. Powered by a dedicated 6200Wp solar array, this pump moves huge volumes of water into our open channel irrigation system. This is "Solar Rain" that keeps our Napier grass and pastures lush while the rest of the country starts to turn brown. Where are the cows? We’ve moved the herd outside the farm to the local rice paddies. Now that the harvest is finished, the fields are full of rice straw and fresh "after-harvest" grass. The Benefit: The cows get free, high-volume fiber from the straw. The Goal: By grazing the paddy fields now, we let our own 6-hectare lot "rest." We are building a "bank" of green grass that will be our secret weapon when the peak dry season arrives in March. System Specs Solar Array: 6200Wp (Ground Mount) Pump: 5.5hp Centrifugal (High Volume) Irrigation Method: Open Channel / Flood Irrigation Strategy: Rotational Resting + Post-Harvest Foraging Farming in a tropical climate is all about timing.
