When: February 21st, 23rd, and 25th, 1989 Where: Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California SHOW INFO: Prior to finishing his shows at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Michael Jackson noted the high demand in excess tickets for those shows. So, he agreed to just three more shows at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena California, to maximize fan attendance. The shows took place on February 21st, 23rd, and 25th, in 1989. Jackson sold out all three shows, performing to a total of 318,00 people in the process. Jackson decided to revamp the show (reintroducing the stage style used on his European tour). And by adding songs which hadn't been performed since the previous American leg ended in May of 1988, as well as a song which had only ever been rehearsed for the tour (but never performed) until now... Which came as a welcome surprise to the fans in attendance... This was all done with the hopes of these 3 shows being Jackson's last performances ever..... so he thought ;) LIVE RECORDING: The concerts were multitracked and released on CD in a bundle with a live audio recording of one of Jackson's 1987 concerts in Fukuoka, Japan. The release was made to celebrate the two-year anniversary of Jackson's 'Bad' album later that August. ‘BAD Tour 1989 LIVE AT THE ROSE BOWL’ would go on to sell 11 million worldwide. Setting a record for live albums Rehearsed songs not performed for 1988/89: Baby Be Mine, Off The Wall, Speed Demon, Get On The Floor SET CHANGES: Don’t Stop was replaced by This Place Hotel from July-December 1988. Leave Me Alone was taken off the set after the first US leg, but was reintroduced for the late 1988 shows, Off The Wall would also be performed on some dates in the European and early US legs. Dirty Diana was often removed from the set in the June-January shows SHOW NOTES: Smooth Criminal, The Way You Make Me Feel, Bad, and Man In the Mirror were each half lip synced. Leave Me Alone featured live vocals on the US 1988 leg, but dubbed vocals for the 89’ shows. Much of the songs featured live vocals but were dubbed for the album.
