NIXA, Mo. -- School mascots are cool, but rarely do they evoke the kind of emotion one did at Nixa's Highpointe Elementary Friday. Here's a story we can all cheer for. In every crowd of kids there's always one that can't help but spot our cameras -- Friday it was Addison O'Dell. She and her classmates are gathered in their school gym waiting for a pep rally to start. Little do they know, there's a special guest slotted to make an appearance. "Baldwin the eagle!" Who knows why kids love some guy in a bird suit so much. I mean I guess it makes sense-- he does come bearing gifts. "Baldwin here has two frisbees that he's autographed. When you hear your name called I want you to come on up." First name drawn, our observant friend Addison. It's a needed surprise for Addison, you see her dad, Technical Sgt. Cory O'Dell was shipped out to Korea about a year ago. She hasn't seen him since. As she made her way to the front, and collected her frisbee, she failed to notice yet another surprise. When her brother Kyler's name was drawn right after, she still didn't notice. It wasn't until the reason was right in front of her that she knew why she could love some guy in a bird suit so much. "Was that a good surprise Addy?" "Yes!" O'Dell returns to duty in five weeks.
