Title: Through Night and Blood – The Rise of Edward IV Begins On the night of October 12th to 13th fourteen fifty-nine, Edward, Earl of March, had only one choice: the seventeen-year-old had to run for his life. There was hardly any time to say goodbye to his family. Edward would be separated from his father, Duke of York, and his younger brother Edmund, Earl of Rutland. Together with his uncle Richard Neville, Earl of Salisbury, and his cousin of the same name, the Earl of Warwick, he would attempt to make his way to Calais. His father and brother would go to Ireland. The rest of the family, including his mother Cecily and his brothers George and Richard, would fall into the hands of the enemy: the Lancastrian army, encamped under the royal banner only a few miles away, had surrounded the Yorkists and was now tightening the noose.
