A free presentation on resources and support for living independently in one’s own home was held Thursday, March 27, hosted by the City of Santa Maria Public Library and the Santa Maria Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW). The program took place in Shepard Hall at the City Library. The public event featured speakers from the non-profit Access Central Coast, formerly known as Independent Living Resource Center. Their purpose is to promote independent living and full access for individuals with disabilities living in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties. They have been working with people experiencing all disabilities, of all ages, and income levels for more than 45 years. The presenters shared information about various resources and support the organization provides, including assistive technology, blind and low-vision services, their device lending and demonstration center, interpreter registry, and benefits counseling.
