In this tutorial, Mayko copies one of his paintings and we try to learn how that style is possible. The raw energy and those rough edges in his life paintings lie on top of a solid, technically proficient base. He had excellent basic figure drawing skills stemming from his traditional training and regular practice. His anatomy, perspective and ability to structure his drawings and compositions were so well established that they became second nature, and that allowed him to let go and express himself. We look at the geometric shapes that went into his structures, at how he was focused on lines and not tones, at his mindset for drawing without fear and various other elements that went into creating these beautifully awkward and sometimes even grotesque figures.
