► In this video: It's hard not to be awed by the sheer cliffs that soar above a turquoise sea, by the fact that you're sailing in an immense crater of a drowned volcano and that before you lies an island shaped by an ancient eruption cataclysmic beyond imagining. High above, the main villages of Fira and Oia are a snow-drift of white Cycladic houses that line the cliff tops and spill like icy cornices down the terraced rock. And then there are the sunsets, with crowds breaking into applause as the sun disappears below the horizon. ► How to reach: The most convenient way to reach Santorini is by air, it has its own airport but if you are on another Greek island then you can come by sea. ► Places we explored: FIRA: It is the capital of Santorini. On the caldera side you get one of the best views of the island and the activity level is enough to keep you entertained for hours. OIA: Picturesquely situated on the cliffs on the northern tip of Santorini, the wonderful municipality of Oia nestles against the Aegean Sea… you arrive on time for sunset. You shouldn't miss this spectacle, but you should know that you won't find any empty bars and restaurants at this time. KAMARI BEACH: Kamari Beach is one of the most popular and most visited beach resorts in Santorini. It is in the seaside village of Kamari, 10 km southeast of Fira and close to the Airport. It is at the foot of the imposing Mesa Vouno Mountain where the prominent archaeological site of Ancient Thera is found. it's mainly black sand or pebbles in some areas. Lots of shops and restaurants close by, many of the sun beds are owned by different bars and hotels along the beach WALK BETWEEN FIRA AND OIA: The obvious activity is to walk the caldera edge and admire the views. Walks in and around Fira are spectacular, particularly heading north to Firostefani and Imerovigli along the caldera-edge pathway. Keep walking and you’ll eventually reach Oia, but be aware that this is no small undertaking and the trail beyond Imerovigli can be rough.
