Grand Theft Auto Online is a multiplayer open-world action game set in the fictional state of San Andreas, the same setting as Grand Theft Auto V. Players create their own character and enter the city of Los Santos, where they build a criminal career through missions, heists, businesses, and competitive activities with other players. The story begins when the player arrives in Los Santos seeking opportunity and is introduced to the criminal underworld by Lamar Davis. Starting with small jobs for local figures like dealers and shady businessmen, the player gradually gains reputation and begins working with major criminals and masterminds who assign high-stakes missions such as bank robberies and large illegal operations. As players earn money and reputation, they can purchase property, customize vehicles, run illegal businesses, and team up with others for large heists or competitive events. The game world is persistent and regularly updated with new missions, activities, and features, allowing up to about 30 players to explore and interact in the same online environment.
