Ransomware hackers accessed and downloaded documents containing sensitive health information from ManageMyHealth, a patient portal used in New Zealand. Even if you’re not personally impacted, this is a good reminder of how “side door” breaches happen. Attackers don’t always break into the main system, they look for the easiest external path, like a portal feature that stores documents. Health data is valuable because it can fuel identity fraud, but it also enables targeted manipulation. If someone knows what you’re dealing with medically, scams get a lot more personal, and a lot more convincing. If a breach like this ever affects you, check your account security status, lock down your email with a strong unique password and MFA, and watch for targeted follow-up scams. Psych-wise, this is optimism bias. We tend to believe rare, bad outcomes happen to other people, not us. The fix is not panic. It’s building the habit of securing the accounts that would hurt the most if they were ever exposed. #Cybersecurity #DataBreach #Privacy #IdentityTheft #CyberPsychology
