This was a great hike started Friday at 4 PM and going into the night. I hiked up Mt. Isolation via the Rocky Branch Trail, making camp four miles up. Then I continued on to the summit via the Isolation Trail, just making it for sunset. Met a backpacker named Morgan who was kind enough to let me use her stove after I left mine at camp. Without her I wouldn't have been eating dinner until well after 10 PM. Thank you Morgan! We were greeted to a fantastic sunset behind the Southern Presidentials. It was short but spectacular. Then it was a hike in the dark back to camp. When planning to watch sunset from the top I didn't consider how long the return trip would take. Hiking in the dark is fairly relaxing but I was very tired and quickly become a slog. The hammock was welcome when I got back at 10:15 PM. Super hot at first, I cooled as the night went on but slept fairly soundly otherwise. Very comfy in the Chameleon. A quick morning coffee and then I broke down and was descending by 6 AM. I camped halfway up to minimize the hike out as I had another full day of hiking planned. I worked well - I was done by 7:30 AM and was pulling in to Pinkham Notch a few minutes later. Stay tuned for a trip over the Wildcats and a bit of the Great Gulf Wilderness. 00:00 - Introduction 00:36 - Starting the Rocky Branch Trail 02:46 - Of Bugs and Water 04:34 - Setting Up Camp 05:00 - Racing the Sunset 07:52 - Mt.
