Electrical : Updates & additions to the Fun-Jiggery-Pokery Unit.

Just like the title, this video will show a couple of additions I have made to the Fun-Jiggery-Pokery Unit. The first one is merely a hairspray earosol can cap placed over the 16A appliance inlet to keep out dust and things. The second addition is a "Bypass-Plug". This, like the name suggests, allows me to 'bypass' one of the in-series sockets on the Fun-Jiggery-Pokery Unit, so that anything plugged into the other socket gets full-on unrestricted current and volts. A typical application of the bypass plug on the Fun-Jiggery-Pokery Unit would be where an appliance is being tested out ballasted to start with and then once it has been determined that the appliance is running normally (albeit slightly differently/slower due to the restrictions placed upon it by the ballasting...) the first socket on the Fun-Jiggery-Pokery Unit can then have the ballasting removed, and then the bypass plug inserted, thus allowing the appliance being tested to receive an unrestricted power supply. This saves from having to either run a seperate extension lead, or having to use a pin-configuration convertor on the coupler that is connected into the Fun-Jiggery-Pokery Unit. Another application is SOFT-STARTING AND INRUSH CONTROL. One thing that the Fun-Jiggery-Pokery Unit can be used for, is to restrict inrush on inductive loads, like my 10A variac or a big motor lod for example. Upon the inductive load being started up under restriction, to ensure that the load then runs properly, the restriction (or ballasting) then needs to be bypassed, while maintaining an unbroken connection to the electricity supply. This is where the Bypass Plug comes in, along with the use of a two-way adaptor. In one socket (on the adaptor) the ballasting can be connected for an inrush-restricting start-up, and once the inductive load has worked-up to speed, or fluxed up, it is then down to the Bypass Plug to allow the load to run at full power unrestricted. This is then put into practice by inserting the Bypass Plug into the other socket on the previously mentioned two-way adaptor. Once the Bypass plug is inserted into the other socket on the two way adaptor, the load then runs unrestricted, therefore the ballasting (also connected into the two-way adaptor, now bypassed and no longer needed) can now be removed. In words, this procedure sounds long drawn-out, difficult and complicated. In practice, it is quick and easy! :-) A little later on, ( check back to this description in the future for a direct link!! ) I will do a demonstration of how quick-and-easy it is to use the Fun-Jiggery-Pokery Unit, a two-way adaptor and the Bypass Plug as a soft-starting unit for my 10A variac. Really, it is oh-so-easy! It's quite quick too, once you've gone through the procedure a couple of times! :-) In future videos, we'll be seeing more of the Fun-Jiggery-Pokery Unit and the 10A variac, and quite possibly both at the same time in certain videos!
