Putwall order fulfillment system acts as a buffer between order picking zones. Partial orders are brought to the back of the putwall. The software marries an open order with a cubbie, cell or tote position in the wall. Each cubbie has a light indicator which when lit tells the operator where to place that portion of the order. After the operator places the inventory in the cubbie, they push a task complete button telling the system that their activity is complete at that cubbie. The software then automatically directs the operator to the next put. This is repeated throughout the day. On the other side of the wall is order picking operator. After the putting operator has placed the last piece of an order in the cubbie, the software activates a light for the pick operator to place that cubbies contents into a carton or bag to complete the order.
