Kotani Sensei served as the Head Instructor and Director of the Kodokan's International Division for many years. In this role, he oversaw the instruction of many U.S. military personnel who would go on to become prominent figures in the American martial arts community. Beyond Japan, Kotani toured globally, sponsored by the United States military, to continue training servicemen. His worldwide promotion of Judo significantly influenced the development of Judo and Jujutsu in America.
