Weniiar in partnership with Hospice New Zealand Dr. Shirley H. Bush is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine (Division of Palliative Care) at the University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Canada, and an Investigator with both the Bruyère and Ottawa Hospital Research Institutes. She has worked as a Palliative Care physician for over 25 years, having initially trained and worked as a general practitioner in London, UK. Dr. Bush trained in Palliative Medicine in New Zealand and Australia, becoming a Foundation Fellow of the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (Royal Australasian College of Physicians) in 2000. She has worked as an attending physician on the Palliative Care Unit at Bruyère Continuing Care, Ottawa since 2009. Dr. Bush embarked on her academic career in 2008. Her research interests include delirium management and guidelines, and the experiential impact of delirium on patients and their families. THE TOPIC WILL INCLUDE: This online lecture will provide an overview of delirium in palliative care, and also present recent research on emerging medications for the prevention and management of delirium in palliative care populations. The adaptation and implementation of an interprofessional delirium clinical practice guideline on an inpatient palliative care unit to improve the quality of care will also be presented.
