Watch this video, wherein Prof Harish P M, Associate Professor in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering at IITGN, shares his teaching innovation stories with us all. He discusses some of the innovative methods that he brought to the class to teach the Mechanical Engineering students the 'Dynamics and Vibrations' course with the aim to make learning a fun process. Professor Harish also talks about the special topic course titled 'Dynamics and Control through Household Objects' that he taught to the students virtually when the pandemic hit the world. The best thing about this course was that the students could use the materials/objects available at their homes to conduct carefully planned engineering experiments such as using a carrom board to study principles of impulse-momentum, friction and work-energy, or using a fidget spinner to learn about the gyroscopic effect. In addition, he talks about an in-house designed kit called 'Tactus' (inspired by Stanford University's Hapkit), which was shipped to every student's home so that they get to assemble their own hardware at home and try out several haptics experiments by applying control and dynamics concepts. Sharing their feedback, many students wrote that they found the course very intriguing and have also appreciated the thoughts and efforts of shipping the kit at their place.
