Wallangarra Wanderings - Snow 2015 is an extension to the earlier YouTube offerings from Express Train Video - Australia. During the week of 13 July until 17 July, 2015, snow threatened the border region of Queensland known as the Granite Belt. The border township of Wallangarra, site of a dual gauge railway station where once the New South Wales Railway standard gauge system met the Queensland Railway narrow gauge system and exchanged passenger and freight traffic. At its peak in the 1920's the railway hosted the crack Sydney Mail passenger trains linking the Queensland capital Brisbane with the New South Wales capital, Sydney. In decline for decades after the opening of the direct standard gauge connection to Brisbane, the New South Wales network ceased operating to Wallangarra in the late 1980's and Queensland Rail saw ceasation of regular rail services in early part of this century. Occasional heritage tour trains still operate on the Queensland side of the border. Southern Downs Steam Railway fly the flag with several services each year with other heritage operations limited to a few trains a year. The vision of the snow falling for the first time in 31 years, gave a much needed boost to the local area with an influx of snow chasers. The vista of Wallangarra Station blanketed in snow was a unique occasion and worthy of capture, even without an operating train. My opportunity to be present was for professional reasons. Accompanying with friend and colleague, Terry Royan for much of the week, we covered both sides of the border gathering news content. A break in demand allowed the capture of the content that has created Wallangarra Wanderings - Snow 2015. Produced and Directed by Mike Condon Copyright: Express Train Video - Australia, 2015.
